The Power Of Gratitude

Updated: Jan 16

Gratitude Journals and a pen

I began practicing gratitude about 20 years ago, during a tough period when I often felt stuck in negativity. A book I read at the time encouraged gratitude as a daily practice. The idea was simple: shifting your energy toward gratitude pulls more positive things into your life.

So I committed. Every single day. And when I say it changed my life, I don’t exaggerate. Gratitude grounded me, helped me stay present, and stopped me from being swept up in the noise and negativity around me.

My favorite practice is journaling gratitude first thing in the morning. Others prefer bedtime reflection. Both are powerful ways to reset perspective and end or begin the day with intention.

It doesn’t take long—five to ten minutes a day is enough. All you need is a notebook. I often gift beautiful journals because it makes the practice even more meaningful.

Gratitude has been life-changing for me as a leader and as a person.

Reflection question: Do you have a gratitude practice? If not, what’s one small step you could start today to shift your focus toward the positive?
