September Reset: What Habits Are Not Serving You?

Fall season road through nature

I always find it interesting what comes up when I actually take a little time out from the busyness of life and ask myself: How am I doing? Am I living in a way that supports what is most important to me?

Health and wellness have always mattered to me, but now that I’m in my 50s, they’ve definitely moved up the priority list. I want to grow older with as much strength, energy and good health as possible, so I can actually enjoy all the parts of my life I’m working so hard to stay healthy for!

But here’s the funny part...

When I look honestly at how I’m living day to day lately, I can usually find a few cracks in the plan (or in the actions).

Maybe my morning workouts have become a little more “optional” than I intended.

Maybe the food prep has fallen off.

Maybe summer somehow turned a glass of wine into a few more glasses of wine, on a few more nights of the week. Funny how that happens. 😉

None of that means I’ve failed or need to start over.

It just means it’s time for a reset.

September has always felt like the perfect time for one. There’s something about getting back into routines after summer that makes me want to tighten up the habits I already know make me feel better.

So this month, I’m getting back to some simple basics.

My evening routine:

Set clothes out for my morning workout and water bottle ready to go. After-dinner walk with the puppy, shower, herbal tea, then into bed with a good book.

My morning routine:

Water before coffee. A little gratitude journaling. Walk the puppy. Breakfast, then the gym. And protein gets to be the hero of the meal.

My weekly routine:

Food plan on Wednesday before I place my grocery order, and some simple food prep on Sunday so Future Me doesn’t have to figure out dinner when she’s tired and hungry. Future Me makes questionable decisions when left unsupervised.

Because ultimately, your habits build your life.

Not the big dramatic overhaul you promise yourself you’re going to start on Monday.

The little things you do most days.

So here’s something worth asking yourself:

What habits are serving the life you want, and which ones aren’t?

Sometimes we know exactly what we need to do. We just need a little help getting back to actually doing it. Some accountability or someone align your habits with.

That’s one of the things I love most about coaching. It creates space to figure out what matters, build realistic habits around your real life, and have the right amount of accountability to keep moving forward.

If you feel like you could use your own September reset, reach out. I’d love to help you figure out what yours could look like.

No perfection required. Just a good place to start.
